Residents of Atkinson and surrounding communities are invited to join in for the seasonal celebration and goodwill at Atkinson Resort & Country Club for the annual "Light the Tree" celebration on Thursday, December 2nd from 5:30 to 8:30pm. The event is open to everyone and full of family-friendly activities. Admission is free but guests are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots program, or non-perishable food items for local soup kitchens.
Activities such as music, caroling, arts and crafts, cookie decorating, hayrides and ice carving demonstrations offer holiday fun for children and adults of all ages. Waiting anxiously for Santa’s arrival at the 40+/-foot evergreen tree, guests look on as he lights the tree to a display of fireworks. Following the tree lighting, Santa will be on hand in the Legacy Ballroom and – in the time-honored tradition – listens to each child's Christmas hopes and dreams.
Complimentary cookies, hot chocolate, coffee, tea, and water will be available, and those looking for something more substantial will find hamburgers and hot dogs for sale outside and at the Resort's restaurants, Merrill's Tavern and Stagecoach Grille.
"This event has become a great holiday tradition for so many of the area's families," said Christine Lewis Morse, president of Atkinson Resort & Country Club. "Thanks to the continued support of our local community organizations, staff, friends, and family, we continue to come together to welcome in the holiday season."
