Tom Smith grew up on the fairways of Green Meadow Golf Club in Hudson NH where his Grandfather worked. At the age of six, Tom was given his first golf club and lesson by NEPGA Hall of Famer Phillip J. Friel. When Tom was 9 he began caddying at local private clubs and when old enough to work would park carts at Green Meadow, there he would meet many of his mentors who were PGA Members and golf enthusiast.
Smith embarked on his mission to become PGA Member and after graduating high school where he was golf and wrestling captain, he attended the Golf Academy of The South in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Upon returning from Florida he received his first Assistant Professional position at Green Meadow at twenty years old.
Tom’s dedication and passion would become very evident as he became a lead golf instructor at Sun N Air Learning Center in Danvers, MA (2004) where he would give over 600 lessons to golfers of all skill levels including many local club champions. The following years Smith would become Head Professional at Beverly Golf and Tennis Club Beverly, MA (2005-2006) and Head Pro at Hampden Country Club Hampden, MA (2007).
Realizing the toll the long commute was taking on his family, Tom returned home to Haverhill, MA where he and his wife Jessica and nine year old son Brendan now reside. Accepting a position as a teaching professional at the Renaissance golf club (2008). After Renaissance, Tom accepted a position at Ferncroft Country Club (2009-2012) where he became certified within the Titleist Performance Institute and realized his passion for teaching and golf fitness.
Tom is currently the Head Golf Coach for Endicott College in Beverly, MA. Over the past 4 years Coach Smith has led the Gulls to 3 conference championships and the conferences first ever appearance to the Division 3 National Championship. During his tenure as Head Coach, Tom has had the pleasure of coaching a Ping Regional All American and his three previous captains are currently either playing mini tours or have enrolled in the PGA apprentice program. Coach Smith is the current golf chairman for the Commonwealth Coastal Conference and sits on NCAA New England regulatory player selection committee. He has also captured Coach of the year honors for the past two consecutive years.
Smith’s passion for swing efficiency, golf fitness and undeniable track record at the collegiate level or local club level speak for themselves. Believing that you can change your swing by training your body the right way. A simple stretching routine that pertains to the golf swing, strength and mobility can make you more efficient.
Golf is the game of a lifetime, there is no better feeling than standing on the tee with friends or family members! Life is like a long windy fairway with hazards and bumps along the way! Swinging the club with proper mechanics and physically being stronger in the right areas is a game changer that is injury preventative. Golf fitness is tremendous for players of all ages and I look forward on embarking on your golf journey with you!
